Maclaren Junior Quest Buggy Review - Part Four, Final Thoughts

I can't believe how quick the time has gone this month, but it's time for our fourth and final Maclaren Kid Tester blog post. Before we launch into it, we'd just like to say a huge thank you to Maclaren from Rhoda, Liz and Jonny for allowing us to test and review your buggy!

For the past three weeks Jonny (my guest reviewer's son) has been testing out this Maclaren Junior Quest Buggy.  If you missed the first three posts, you can find them at the following links (part one, part two, part three).

I think it's fair to say that Jonny has absolutely loved his role as a tester. He has had hours of fun playing with his buggy, and all his toys are now well accustomed to travelling by Maclaren buggy! He has used it for playing with, putting his toys in and pushing them around, "feeding" his toys in and even sitting in himself!

Sadly due to the snow and ice he hasn't been able to test it outside, but I'm very confident that the buggy would stand up well to being played with outdoors.

Now that the period of testing is over, I anticipate that Jonny will continue to play with his new buggy. In fact, with a little brother or sister on the way it will be a fantastic asset as Jonny will be able to copy his Mummy looking after the new baby.

Personally I have been very impressed by this product. It's fantastic quality, has a great pattern and provides hours of fun. If you are looking to buy your child a toy buggy I highly recommend this one......you've seen Jonny sitting in it so you can tell how sturdy it really is.

All that I have left to say is.......who says buggies are just for girls?!

The Maclaren Junior Quest buggy is available from the Maclaren UK Showroom or you can can search for your nearest store here.

Why not keep up to date with all of Maclaren's news on Facebook and Twitter too?

One Maclaren Junior Quest buggy was received for the purposes of this review. All views expressed in this post are my own. I did not receive any other reward, financial or otherwise for this post.

Snuggie by JML - Review and *Giveaway* - CLOSED

I hope you all had a fantastic Christmas and that Santa was good to you all. Have you spent all your Christmas money in the sales yet? No? Well hold off for a bit until you have read this review, it might just interest you!

Last year, when I was particularly ill, my Mum bought me a Snuggie to help keep me warm, and I instantly fell in love with it! So, what's a Snuggie I hear you ask? Well it's a blanket with sleeves! It means you can lie all tucked up on the sofa with your favourite book or a cuppa and keep your arms warm too, unlike a conventional blanket where your arms inevitably end up much colder than the rest of you.

The Snuggie comes from JML and is available in both adult and child sizes. They are made from soft polyester making them very cosy,  and with no buttons, zips or fasteners there's no uncomfortable surprises as you snuggle in to relax.

As you might have gathered from my previous posts, I'm a bit of a bargain hunter and I like to save the old pennies! Well, this product can help you do just that too....no need to turn up the heating if you are alone in the house, just pop your Snuggie on!

With a variety of colours available from blue to red, leopard print to zebra pattern, and retailing at just £14.99 for an adult Snuggie, and £9.99 for the kids, there's something for everyone.

The lovely people at JML have offered me two Snuggies to give away to two lucky blog readers! To be in with a chance of winning you MUST do all of the following three things:

  1. Leave me a comment on this post, telling me why you'd like to win a Snuggie.
  2. Be a follower of my blog through Google Friend Connect.
  3. Leave some way of contacting you if you are the winner e.g. twitter ID, email etc.
There are TWO ways to gain additional entries for this competition, but you must leave a SEPARATE comment for each entry.
  1. For one additional entry please tweet "I've entered @justforcomps' blog giveaway to win a Snuggie from @JML_Direct, you can too at http://bit.ly/eReoUs"
  2. Become a fan of JML on Facebook - JML Direct Facebook page
I'm afraid the competition is open to the UK only and will close on Sunday 9th January 2011 at 7pm. There are two Snuggies to giveaway to two separate winners (as chosen by random.org).

For more fantastic products from JML check out their website - http://www.jmldirect.com/. You can also keep up to date with all of their news, offers and giveaways on their Facebook page, and Twitter pages (@JML_Direct). Keep your eyes peeled for their competitions to win a Cosy Night In with Cyril The Squirrel.

English Quest Board Game Review

Last week I reviewed some fun Christmas songs by the people at Quest (if you missed it, you can find it here - there are four songs, one for England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales).  This week, I have the pleasure of introducing you to the English Quest board game. Yes it may be Christmas Eve tomorrow, but if you are still looking for a present, this is a fantastically fun game that all the family can enjoy!

The idea of the game is to travel throughout England answering questions on history, land & nature, culture and modern life.  Throughout your journey you must collect tiles to spell out the word QUEST, then make your way to London to answer your final question to win.

For every question you answer you gain a sovereign, which you can use to gain entry to London (congestion charge), to purchase your tile (if you answer the question correctly of course), or you can use 5 of them to fly between airports!

To give you an idea of the type of questions featured in the game I have included a sample card (you can find more here):

Where a black dot is featured beside a question you can look up an accompanying booklet for some background on the answer (see right hand side of question card above).

There are also Jester cards which come into play if you land on a Jester symbol. These can be great and earn you free flights or sovereigns, or can be somewhat detrimental to your game!

We tested this game with two separate sets of people.  The first was a couple of friends of our age. We had a great game, and even though I'm not English I managed to answer a lot of the questions. In fact it vastly improved my geography of the country! We loved how mobile the game is, as their toddler son needed to be put to bed we just shifted the game upstairs and continued to play!  All in all the game went down very well.

The second lot of testers were our sisters, a boyfriend, my in-laws and my husband's Gran (91 years young!). I was somewhat retiscent as to how these varying age ranges would embrace the game, however it was a huge hit. There is such a range and breadth of questions that there is something for everyone, young and old! I also love the fact it's multiple choice so you can make an educated guess if you aren't sure of the answer. Personally I found this a huge relief as I really do not enjoy games that make you feel intellectually inadequate.

The game itself is beautifully presented and is great quality. It would make a lovely gift for anyone! Of course there are other versions available too to cater for every nation (Scotland, England, Ireland and Wales) and even Coronation Street fans.

The games retail at an RRP of £39.95, however if you purchase online you can snap up a great deal - £24.95 + p&p.

However it doesn't end there! If you follow your respective game on Twitter and Facebook you will get new questions every day to add to your game.

The demand for these fantastic games has been so great from around the world that a new version of the game has been introduced. You can now purchase the books in downloadable E-Quiz Book format, prices start at £1.95 for a single volume and peak at a mere £5.85 for the full book. I have had the pleasure of playing both the Scottish and English versions of this game, and they really are great fun. They are just the same questions as the full Quest board games, however they are made into a quiz format, complete with scorecards, for universal enjoyment.  To check out a sample of the English E-Quiz Book (with 96 questions) visit this page.

I really loved this game and I can't wait to play it again. I highly recommend it as a gift, I would love to receive one. I reckon I have people's birthday presents for 2011 sorted now.

For more information on any of the Quest games, or to purchase, visit the relevant website - Scotland, England, Ireland, Wales, Coronation Street.

Be sure to check out the relevant Facebook and Twitter pages for the game of your interest. Here are the links for the English Quest Facebook and English Quest Twitter pages.

I hope you all have a lovely, peaceful Christmas.  If you are travelling I really hope you manage to get to your destination, and stay safe in the process.

Wishing you all the very best for 2011, I hope to have some great reviews and some lovely giveaways for you to enjoy in the New Year.

Well, tomorrow is Christmas Eve (how did that happen?) which means you have one day left to buy your presents if you've left it to the last minute. If you have a wee one to buy for why not consider the Maclaren Junior Quest Buggy?

If you've read our first two reviews you will know how much fun Jonny has had with this toy! Yes he might be male, but that hasn't stopped him having a ball with this pink buggy!

This would make a fantastic present for the wee one in your life. It really is great quality, and has even withstood Jonny using it as his own seat too! It's so easy to put together.......and unlike so many toys you wont have a panic on Christmas morning when you realise you have forgotten the batteries! I'm sure it will provide your child with hours of entertainment throughout the holidays and beyond!

Maclaren Junior Quest Buggy Review - Part Two, Playtime

This is a follow on from our initial Maclaren review, if you haven't read it yet you can find it here.

Jonny has now had his new Maclaren Junior Quest Buggy for a few days so we thought it was time to update you on what he's been up to with it!

Well firstly, he absolutely loves it! He goes round and round the house pushing it and is actually getting really good at avoiding the doors, walls and skirting boards (much to his parents' relief!).

His penguin has actually been very well travelled since he got his buggy and spends lots of time being pushed around the house! Yes it might not be the conventional use for a buggy, but Jonny loves it! He was even "feeding" the penguin while it was in the buggy the other day - very cute!

In fact, Jonny seems to enjoy pushing most of his toys round the house!

The other day he had me in tears of laughter - after being given a tiny chocolate teddy from his advent calendar he didn't eat it but popped it in the buggy and pushed it round the living room shouting "teddy, teddy"! It seems he wants to share the buggy love with everyone!

Jonny has also found that his buggy makes a fantastic seat from which to watch his favourite TV shows. I caught him "chilling" watching CBeebies yesterday (apologies for the quality of this photo, I had to use my phone).

I think this is the best demonstration of the quality of the buggy! It's so strong and sturdy that Jonny feels completely safe in it. Clearly it's quite comfortable too!

That's all our news for now, but look out for part three of this review coming soon.....

The Maclaren Junior Quest buggy is available from the Maclaren UK Showroom or you can can search for your nearest store here.

Why not keep up to date with all of Maclaren's news on Facebook and Twitter too?

Bunches Flowers Review

Last week I reviewed the very tasty Moko Chocolates (missed it? click here). This week, I'm very excited to be reviewing some flowers from their sister company, Bunches.

Bunches deliver flowers by post and were started by a husband and wife team back in 1989. In the past 21 years they have delivered over 2.5million bouquets of flowers throughout the UK!

On Saturday I was greeted by this box (made from 100% recycled & recyclable material).....

.......and inside a lovely Winter Wonder bouquet!

The flowers arrived in great condition, well packaged and well fed! I was immediately struck by the beauty of the flowers and the lovely colours. However it got even better! As I lifted out the flowers I found this lovely Christmas card and a wee box of chocolates too!

As you would expect, the flowers come with liquid food to prolong their life. I fully admit that I'm not very good at flower arranging, but these came in such a lovely arrangement that I just had to snip off their ends slightly and pop them in a vase.

These particular flowers cost £29.99, including free chocolates, card and delivery. In fact all of the prices listed on the website include free delivery by first class post. Like I said in the Moko Chocolates review, I really like this, I'm definitely not a fan of hidden costs!

Another similarity to Moko Chocolates is the rewards scheme they offer. With every purchase at bunches.co.uk you can collect Posy Points towards your future orders. For every pound you spend, you gain 10 posy points worth 0.005p each. The table below shows you the kind of rewards you can attain.

There are also bonus posy points on some products, so it's worth keeping an eye out for those when you are browsing potential gifts! If you are a keen bargain hunter you should also sign up to the Bunches Facebook page, there is a promotions tab on there with the latest offers!

A lovely touch on the website is the option to send a free ecard to thank the sender of your gift! I'm a big believer in saying thank you, and insist upon writing to thank family & friends for gifts, so personally I think this is a great idea!

Finally, I just want to mention that Bunches donate 10% of their profit annually to charity, specifically to carefully chosen projects that benefit communities in developing countries by helping them to build themselves a sustainable future. So when you're looking for that perfect gift, keep in mind that the gift you give could be helping others too.

Why not go one step further and order your Bunches gifts by first clicking through EasyFundraising? You could get a 6.5% donation for your chosen charity.

I am absolutely delighted with my flowers and really look forward to seeing how well they last. I have also been thoroughly impressed with the service Bunches offer, and hope that you will find that too! It's not just about bouquets at Bunches though, they also sell houseplants and helium balloons - great range of gifts....and remember if you fancy sending chocolates, look no further than their sister company Moko Chocolates.

For more information about Bunches check out their website http://www.bunches.co.uk/, become a fan on Facebook and check out their own blog!

Maclaren Junior Quest Buggy Review - Part One, Initial Thoughts

We were absolutely delighted when my guest reviewer, Liz, and her 22 month old son Jonny were chosen as kid testers for Maclaren Baby! Yes Jonny may be a boy but surely there's no rule that says only girls can play with buggies? As a child I only ever played with cars, I think it's quite healthy to allow kids to play with their choice of toys.

His mission is to test out this Maclaren Junior Quest buggy.

Despite the snow, ice, sleet and wind our Maclaren toy finally made it up here and into the arms of one very happy toddler!

I was particularly intrigued to see what his reaction would be...would he cast it aside and return to his fire engines and police cars or would he embrace it?

Well I'm pleased to announce that he loves it!

The buggy comes folded, but is very easy to put up. You can tell from the first touch this it is great quality, and to be honest you wouldn't expect anything less from Maclaren would you?  The dandelion print is very pretty and adds to the joy of this lovely toy.

I can see that Jonny will get lots of fun out of this and I look forward to telling you all about his escapades in the coming posts. In the meantime I think the best way to describe Jonny's thoughts is to show you this video......

The Maclaren Junior Quest buggy is available from the Maclaren UK Showroom or you can can search for your nearest store here.

Why not keep up to date with all of Maclaren's news on Facebook and Twitter too?

Look out for part two of this review coming soon.....we'll be telling you what Jonny has been up to with his buggy!

National Pride This Christmas

In the not so distant future I'm going to be reviewing The Quest games, both the downloadable versions and the board game. In the meantime I have some nice Christmassy songs to share with you!

If you aren't familiar with the Quest games, they are a series that tests your knowledge of your nation. With the Scottish Quest, English Quest, Irish Quest and Welsh Quest games available there's something for everyone. Keep an eye out for my new review for more information!

The reason I mention the games is because the people at Quest have brought out 4 Christmas songs - one for each nation! I have had the pleasure of listening to both the Scottish one (Santa's A Scotsman) and the English version (Santa's from England) and they are unbelievably catchy!

Santa's A Scotsman has actually been around since 2006 when it knocked Leona Lewis off the top spot in the HMV Digital Chart - that's quite an achievement! With yet another reality show induced potential number 1 on the horizon, Santa's A Scotsman is out to beat it!

However, this year there's three new songs realised - Santa's From England, Santa Is Irish and Santa's A Welshman! Is it possible that all of these songs could feature in the charts this year?

The songs are just great fun and offer something a wee bit different. Why not check them out (click the link of the song you want to hear) and make up your own mind?

All of the songs are available to download from iTunes so you can have them playing at your Christmas parties, or even just blasting out while you are at the computer (yes that's what I've been doing).

All views expressed in this post are my own. I did not receive any reward, financial or otherwise for this post.

Flossie Crums: The Enchanted Cookie Tree Winner

I'm so excited about giving away this book, I love it and I hope that the winner will too. I should have made it a condition of entry that I had to try any of the cookies baked as a result of this book!!!

Thank you for all the entries....now to choose a winner.

I have selected the winner using random.org to be..........

CONGRATULATIONS!

Mirrorin - Safety Mirrors For Children - Review

Some days you just see something that you think is a fantastic idea and instantly fall in love with it. Well that's exactly what happened to me when I came across Mirrorin!

Mirrorin is a website that specialises in mirrors for children. They have such a fantastic range of designs, I guarantee you will be spoilt for choice! All of their mirrors are suitable for kids and are made from high quality acrylic glass, which is up to ten times tougher than traditional glass making it shatterproof. I mentioned this to Liz, my guest reviewer, and she was just as impressed as me. She has been looking for a mirror for her son's bedroom, but like all parents was scared that it would shatter if put to the "toddler test".

I was offered my pick of the mirrors on the site to review, and after a considerable length of time I decided to go for the penguins

The mirror arrived this morning and was very well packaged. I was like a child at Christmas as I ripped through the packaging to the mirror. This particular mirror comes in individual pieces with adhesive pads and a diagram showing you exactly where to place the pads to position the mirror properly.

The instructions are very clear and straight forward.  One of my favourite things about this mirror is the ease with which it is mounted on the wall, no need for screws and it's so light! (Note the mirror still has it's protective covering on in this picture, when you remove it it's super shiney!)  I really love this mirror, and at £22.95 I think it's an excellent price too.

I'm tired of giving new parents the same gifts over and over again, I think one of these mirrors would be a lovely gift, something different that will last as the child grows and feature in their bedroom over the years. In fact this particular mirror would make a great gift.

The Kids Height Measuring Mirror costs £55.95 but it kills two birds with one stone - a safe full length mirror and a height chart! It comes with two acrylic height markers so you can easily keep it up to date.

Of course, big kids will love them too, and I'm wondering if I should change the mirror in my bathroom to this one.........

......at only £4.95 for the smallest size I think it's a great bargain.

All of the mirrors are delivered anywhere in the UK for just £2.95. To view the full range of mirrors available visit http://www.mirrorin.co.uk/. I'm sure you will love them as much as I do.

You can also keep up to date with all their news and offers on Twitter @kidsmirrors and Facebook

A penguin mirror was received for the purposes of this review. All views expressed in this post are my own. I did not receive any other reward, financial or otherwise for this post.

Moko Chocolates - Chocoholic Truffle Selection Review

At this time of year all the shops are bursting at the seams with chocolates and sweet things. However, for me, if I'm giving the gift of chocolate I like to make sure they are top quality. Yes I am indeed a chocolate snob and I'm proud to be too!!

While checking out various chocolate-related websites in preparation for Christmas I came across  http://www.mokochocolates.co.uk/. Moko Chocolates launched this year but are part of the Bunches Florapost family who have over 20 years of experience in delivering fresh flowers by post, so they are in good hands.

I was very excited to be asked to review their Chocoholic Truffle Selection, and if I'm honest I think my husband was even more thrilled than me!

The chocolates come in lovely bright pink box which is the perfect size to fit through your postbox. This gets a huge tick from me straight away, if you are sending someone a gift the last thing they should have to do is trek to the local sorting office to pick it up (in my opinion). The box is actually really cute too and features a "spot the difference" and an "eyechart" to encourage you to recycle - another big thumbs up from me!

So....... on to the chocolates! Moko Chocolates have recently added the truffles into their range and they are gorgeous. All of their chocolates use only the finest Belgian chocolate, and you can really taste the quality in each bite.

This particular box of chocolates features a total of 30 truffles and 10 different flavours. Well we felt it was only right if we tested and rated each chocolate individually so this Sunday we sat down and tucked in!

The selection of dark, milk and white chocolates means there is something for everyone. Each chocolate has a deliciously creamy centre, and just melts in your mouth.

One of the main things that struck me is that the alcoholic chocolates actually taste of alcohol! So often you just get the merest hint, but not in this case.

I thought it might be quite fun to tell you our top 3 chocolates each. We had great fun rating them, and even debated over several of the "scores".

             Rhoda                                                            Jonathon
  1. Valencia                                                        1. Single Malt
  2. Irish Cream                                                   2. Too Smooth
  3. Champers Darling                                         3. Champers Darling

To be honest, some of them we so close, we got down to giving tenths of a point!! The long and short of it is that we really enjoyed the truffles and would definitely give them as a gift!

Moko Chocolates have a great website, it's full of information and you know exactly what you are getting! I really like the fact that the price you see is the price you pay. Every box of chocolates comes with free delivery (1st class Royal Mail) meaning that there are no hidden costs. Another of my gripes is choosing the product you want to buy, only to find that you have to pay another third of the total cost in delivery charges - but you have no such problem when shopping with Moko!

Like most people I like a good deal and to feel I'm getting value for money. Moko Chocolates offer a loyality scheme called Moko Stars whereby you gain one star for every 10p you spend with them. These stars are then redeemable on your future orders, with a value of 0.5p each. So, if for example you purchase the Chocoholic Truffle Selection at £19.99, you will gain 200 Moko Stars to redeem on your next purchase - the equivalent of £1. You can also store up your stars for use at a future date.

So, Santa if you are reading this, a nice box of Moko Chocolates would go down a treat this year.....or maybe even the Moko Santa Selection?

Moko Chocolates start at £11.99 and include free first class UK postal delivery and a personal greeting. To check out their full range of chocolates visit their website - http://www.mokochocolates.co.uk/

You can also keep up with all their latest news and special offers on Facebook, http://twitter.com/MokoChocolates and their blog.

One Chocoholic Truffle Selection was received for the purposes of this review. All views expressed in this post are my own. I did not receive any other reward, financial or otherwise for this post.

Cutlery and Catering Sporks Review and *Giveaway* - CLOSED

I am very excited about this review! As anyone who knows me will tell you I love my food, my kitchen and my crockery and cutlery. In fact when it came to compiling our wedding gift list I was totally in my element! It was therefore with great excitement that I was asked to review for a lovely website - http://www.cutleryandcatering.co.uk/.

All families have their own favourite styles of cutlery, or their own way of eating. When I first met my husband's family I was introduced to the concept of splades (or splaydes) and I have to say I thought they were all mad. Well I'm pleased to say that thanks to Cutlery and Catering I have found my own favourite utensil, the spork!

I was delighted to receive a gorgeous set of six Windsor sporks from http://www.cutleryandcatering.co.uk/ to review. They were extremely well packaged and came in a lovely blue gift box.

So what are sporks I hear you ask? Well they are a combination of a knife, a fork and a spoon all in one implement. They are perfect for one-handed eating, with a serrated edge, a spoon-like bowl and short fork-like prongs.

Naturally I had to do plenty of eating to test them out....and I found them great. They aren't too weighty, but are sufficient enough to cut through fairly hard objects.

There is a lovely feel to them and they are great for eating cakes, omelettes, pasta, rice dishes, take-away etc. In fact I would imagine they would be perfect for a BBQ or a picnic, but since there's rather a lot of snow outside I thought it best not to test out that theory.

They are also known as knorks or buffet forks, and would be absolutely perfect for party food. If you are planning a party over the festive season then these would be great...and I'd imagine you would avoid all the crumbs all over the floor too!

I really don't think I can praise these wee gems highly enough. Of course I think I should really eat some more gateau just for the sake of research.

Cutlery and Catering have been operating since 1985, so they have a great understanding of their customers' needs and have an extensive range of cutlery to meet your every need. Cutlery can be bought in gift boxes, or if you are just planning to top-up your cutlery drawer, or buy for a function, then you can also buy them loosely. They now have a Facebook page too so you can keep up to date with all of their news.

I am very pleased to announce that one lucky blog reader can win themselves a box of six Windsor sporks (worth £12.99) from Cutlery and Catering. To enter you MUST do the following four things.
  1. Visit http://www.cutleryandcatering.co.uk/ and leave me a comment below telling me your favourite item on their website.
  2. Become a fan of Cutlery and Catering on Facebook by liking their page www.facebook.com/cutleryandcatering.co
  3. Follow my blog in Google Friend Connect (see right hand side)
  4. Leave some method of contacting you should you be a winner (e.g. email address or twitter name).

There are TWO additional entries on offer, but you must leave a SEPARATE comment for each to qualify.

  1. For one additional entry please tweet "I've entered @justforcomps' blog giveaway to win a set of sporks from Cutlery & Catering http://goo.gl/nkt0D" and leave a SEPARATE entry with your twitter name telling me you have done so.
